Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has advised against using religion as a springboard to oppress under whatever pretext.
Speaking at a Northern Religious Forum on Primary Healthcare in Kano yesterday, Sanusi said every religion had made it mandatory for its faithful to respect one’s rights and uphold his sanctity as human, adding that using religion for oppressive purposes was not the best in an ideal situation.

Sanusi noted that health was the most valuable God-given treasure which mankind should strive to uphold its sanctity, stressing that running away from such a binding responsibility was a clear violation of God’s injunctions.
He said many people had blatantly taken the issue of their children heath care for granted unmindful of the fact that as ones entrusted with the custody of the children they were breeding had carelessly shirked such a great responsibility.
He stressed that given birth to many children without proper parental care and upbringing had bandwagon effect of breeding public nuisance with such uncared for children to become habitual drug addicts and undesirable elements terrorising people.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Kano state Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Nasir Muhamud, said the development of any nation was predicated on its ability to reduce the alarming spate of maternal and child mortality rate, adding that Nigeria was ranking fifth in that direction.
He noted that the North-west and North-east regions were the worst hit in death cases relating to child and maternal mortality stressing that Kano had made considerable inroad in the fight against polio.
