Gombe
A Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has urged youths in the country not to react to rumours capable of jeopardising the unity and peace of the nation.
North East Coordinator of the group, Mohammed Tasi’u Pantami, made the call in a press statement issued in Gombe yesterday as part of activities marking the 57th independence anniversary.
Pantami stated that the group met with elders and community leaders from across the zone with a view to curtailing any breakdown of law and order, urging the citizens not to react to any news or rumour regarding the South east agitation.
“We are calling on our people in the North east region to continue to exercise patience and remain calm and not to react to any news or rumour about the South east agitation,” he said.
He noted that, while CNG recognised the right of Nigerians to live in any part of the country, the group is more concerned with the peace of the country, hence it has embarked on deliberate effort to foster unity and peace among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the zone.
The CNG commended both the federal and state governments for their efforts in averting what would have been a serious crisis that would result to political impasse between the North and South east.
“We also wish to appreciate the efforts of the Igbo leaders in the North, who continue to condemn the actions of IPOB, led by Nnmandi Kanu,” the group said.
