Don’t go to China, FG tells Nigerians

The federal government Wednesday urged Nigerians not to travel to China and other Asian countries battling with the Coronavirus disease.

Addressing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said those who return from China in recent times should also isolate themselves for two weeks to observe the symptoms of the disease.

“In view of the trending stories around stories around the corona virus, it has become necessary to issue a travel advisory to Nigerians. The first is that all Nigerians and all persons intending to travel to China should delay their travel plans until further notice except it is extremely essential for them to do that trip.

“Secondly, all persons arriving from China or any country that has a major outbreak, is advised if they have no symptoms at all, to self-isolate, meaning that they stay indoors in their homes for at least two weeks and if they develop any symptoms like cough, catarrh, sneezing, or breathing difficulties during this period to report to the nearest health facility.

“We are also advising all airlines to report any case of a passenger falling sick on board, before the plane lands,” he said.

The minister said health agencies in the country are on red alert to screen passengers arriving from China.
