Emir of Lapai in Niger state, Alhaji Umaru Bago111, has advised Nigerians to stop cursing their leaders, but to always pray for them.
The royal father gave the advice at the weekend during the turbaning of the 16th Wanguwa of Gulu, Alhaji Muhammad Ababa, in his palace in Lapai.
He said: “Whatever affects the leadership of any society will certainly have a multiplier effect on followership. That is why we should always pray for good things to happen to our leaders, rather than bad and evil, because both will certainly come back to us directly or indirectly.”
He said traditional title were giving to people of proven integrity and as well as those that showed concern to the development and socio-economic well being of the emirate and charged the new Wanguwa of Gulu not to disappoint his people.
He also appealed to the people of his domain, the state and Nigerians to continue to live in peace with one another, adding that “we should continue to be our brother’s keepers.”
Bago 111 also urged political office holders to always abide by oath of office and should Endeavour to fulfil their campaign promises to the people.
“They should always remember that they have either sworn with Holy Qur’an or Holy Bible, as such they should not renege as they would surely account for all their actions, how they spend every kobo entrusted in their hands on the day of reckoning.”
The emir enjoined the people to respect constituted authorities, and as well called on parents to accord priority to immunisation of their children to guard against the child killer diseases.
Speaking after the turbaning, the new Wanguwa of Gulu, Ababa thanked God and the monarch for the honour and pledged to uphold the throne of the area and Lapai Emirate kingdom.
