Sultan of Sokoto and President Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in igeria, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians not to allow some disgruntled politicians instigate them to cause a breach of the peace.
The Sultan, who made the call while speaking at a Sallah lunch he organised for the members of the resident communities in Sokoto, said that those who had lost out in politics could instigate others to cause problems in the country.
“We should all be wary of such unpatriotic Nigerians so that Nigerians can live peacefully live with each other”, he added.
According to the monarch, the settler-indigenes dichotomy was the major precipitating factor in many states of the federation.
“How can somebody who has lived in a place for close to forty or over forty years be regarded as a non-indigene.
“In America, if a child is born today, he or she will be given a visa, this is how it is supposed to be globally.
“Sokoto is home to all, irrespective of any religious, political , social or ethnic differences and everybody don’t pay schools for their kids, at primary and secondary schools levels,” he added.
Abubakar challenged leaders to be just, pious, fair and equitable to all, saying that, this is the basis of prevalence of peace and even socio-economic development.
The Sultan also called on Nigerians to work for the change they had voted for during the recent elections.
He also appealed to Nigerians to come together and live peacefully with each other, while also admonishing the leaders to carry all Nigerians along.
“This world is a very short place to be and discrimination in any form is anti progress.
“This annual forum would be sustained in appreciation of your commendable roles to contribute to boost the socio-economic development, as well as the peace of the state and Nigeria in general,” Abubakar, added.
The President-General of the Association of Resident Communities, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, had commended the sultan for the gesture, describing Sokoto as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
Ibrahim also underscored the sterling contributions of the sultan to peace and unity of Nigeria and beyond.
