Domestic equity market closes lower, sheds N151bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Friday returned to a bearish run, depreciating by N151 billion. 

The market capitalisation of listed equities dropped by 0.23 per cent to N66.717 trillion from N66.868 trillion the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also went down by 242.12 basis points to 106538.60 points from 106780.72 points reported on Thursday.

Although the market recorded higher gainers than decliners, losses were recorded in the shares of MTN Nigeria, Transcorps, FCMB wipe out gain reported in the shares of livestock Feeds, HoneyWell Flour Mills, Eunisell Tantalizer among others.

As a result year-to-date return went down by 3.51 per cent as 34 companies closed in green against 18 firms reported negative performance.

An analysis of the investment showed that LiveStock Feeds led gainers table with 9.87 per cent to close at N8.35 per unit, HoneyWell Flour Mills followed with a gain of 9.80 per cent to close at N13.45 per share, Eunisell gained 9.69 per cent to N10.75 per unit, May & Baker added 9.66 per cent to close at N7.95 per unit, Tantalizer added 9.08 per cent to close at N2.59 per share.

On the contrary, Ikeja Hotel topped losers’ chart, dropping by 9.70 per cent to close at N10.70 per share, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria trailed with a loss of 9.46 per cent to close at N46.90 per unit, FCMB group declined by 7.61 per cent to close at N9.10 per share, Caverton Business Solutions gained 5.80 per cent to close at N2.60 per share, ABC Transport dipped by 5.06 per cent to close at N1.50 per unit.

The volume of trades declined by 26.542 million, representing 7.06 per cent as investors traded 349.185 million shares valued at N9.735 billion against 375.725 million shares cost N10.185 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 11447 deals.

Transaction in the shares of Zenith Bank led market activities with 42.150 million shares valued at N2.015 billion Fidelity Bank followed with account of 35.938 million shares cost N624.725 million, Access Holdings company exchanged 31.496 million shares valued at N746.902 million, United Bank for Africa traded 23.990 million shares cost N897.802 million, Tantalizer sold a total of 23.064 million shares valued at N59.191 million.
