Domestic equity closes bearish, sheds N37bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Thursday closed negative,, shedding N37 billion as losses recorded in the shares of Aradel Plc, AccessCorp, FBNHoldings, Wapco , Zenith Bank and others outweigh gain in the shares of Cornerstone, UPL, SUNU Assurance, Sterling Bank,Gold Breweries and other 30 firms.

This forced Market Capitalisation of listed equities to go down by 0.06 per cent to N59.475 trillion from NN59.512 trillion.

The NGX All Share Index also follow the same direction,  depreciating by 60.88 basis points to 98114.11 points from.98174.99 points reported on Wednesday.

The negative performance for the day  resulted in decline for the year to date return to 31.21 per cent as 35 companies closed the day in green against 16 firms the closed in red

An Analysis of the Investment during the day showed that Cornerstone Insurance and UPL Plc led gainers table during the day, appreciating by 10 per cent each to close at N3.30 and N3.96 per unit respectively, Sterling Bank and SUNU Assurance followed with a gain of 9.98 per cent each to close respectively at N4.83 and N4.63 per share. Gold Breweries gained 9.84 per cent to close at N4.91 per unit

On the contrary,  Redstarex topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent to close at N4.41 per unit, FTNCocoa followed with a gain of 5.61 per cent to close at N1.85 per unit, NPF Micro finance banks down by 3.23 per cent to close at N1.50 per share, Neimeth international Pharmaceutical fell by 2.78 per cent to close at N2.10 per share, Prestige insurance declined by 2.50 per cent to close at N0.78 per unit.

Volume of transactions increased by 201.08 million, representing 40.95 per cent as investors traded 722.998 million shares valued at N12.840 billion in 8495 deals against 512.918 million shares valued at N19.932 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 9420 deals.

Champion Breweries led market activities with 300.933 million shares N1.203 billion, Fidelity Bank followed with account of 48.597 million shares cost N782.995 million, GTCO Plc traded 40.184 million shares worth N2.119 billion, AccessCorp traded 35.620 million shares cost N858.871 million while Wapco exchanged 29.096 million shares worth N2.087 billion.
