Disco loses 39 transformers to vandals in six months

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has cried out over the vandalization of 39 power transformers in its franchise States of Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo States.

The company said the power transformers in Edo and Delta States are the worse hit by vandals between January and May 2019.
Managing Director of BEDC, Mrs Funke Osibodu, disclosed this during a media parley in Benin City, noting that the company has informed  security agencies of the developments.

Osibodu also said BEDC has signed an agreement with five Meter Asset Provider (MAP) firms geared towards addressing “metering gap in the power sector.”
She said the exercise was in compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) towards improving accuracy in billings,  improving quality of supply.
Osibodu however urged customers to cooperate “with enumerators who have been going round various locations in the four states by responding promptly to requests for completion of enumeration forms with a passport photograph.
In addition, a utility bill for postpaid customers and vending slip prepared customers,  including mobile phone number and email address because this information is prerequisite for metering”.
