The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has threatened to bar Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Nigeria Nsukka and 153 universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions Advanced Level certificate holders from being selected for the ongoing 2024 Direct Entry admission.

The examination body said the decision to bar candidates would be as a result of the institutions’ failure to verify their A’level certificates despite repeated request for them to oblige JAMB the exercise.

JAMB in its bulletin regretted that these institutions have refused to honour the request for them to verify the results of their respective candidates and inform the examination body accordingly to enable it process the direct entry application of these candidates.

The examination said three months after it has pleaded with the affected institutions to carry the mandatory exercise, they have declined to oblige them the request, a development they said has hindered further progress in the assessment and processing of the candidates’ application for admission.

JAMB said it is to be noted that candidates applying for direct entry admission are expected to select from a list of qualifications the particular qualifying certificates they would be using to seek such admissions.

JAMB said to prevent such institutions from holding to ransom its admission process, such qualifications from these institutions that refuse to assist the board in verifying results they had issued ab initio, would be removed from the list of listed qualifications/institutions to be accepted for DE admission.

The implication, according to JAMB is that holders of such delisted qualifications would not be able to use them to apply for DE admission.

JAMB said the policy of verifying A’ Level results is intended to help check fraud that may be associated with A’ Level certificates, noting that JAMB through NIPEDS had been seeking the verification of the A’ Level results from the issuing institutions before such holders of the results are considered for DE admission.
