DEPOWA graduates 200 women, youth on skills acquisition

As part of efforts to brace up the activities improve the living standard of women and youth in the Barracks, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) has graduated 200 women and youth undergoing its skills acquisition programme.
President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Omobolanle Olonisakin, who disclosed this on Tuesday during the graduation ceremony of the graduants at the DEPOWA Headquarters, Asokoro, Abuja, said the skills acquired would go a long way in helping the graduants engaged in productive ventures in order to alleviate poverty and improve their living conditions.
She said: “Our country as a developing nation requires productive mindset than a consumer mindset and the beneficiaries are provided with starter packs to commence business immediately for themselves, while assuring them that a follow-up evaluation will be conducted from time to time. This skill acquire will also reduce restiveness and the future of our country is secured.”
In his remarks, the Director-General of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dikko Umaru Radda, represented by Mr. Israel Ikyumior, said the alumni are the “bedrock of economic growth” of the country, as they present a vital platform for boosting technical, technological and entrepreneurial capacities amongst critical segment of the populace.
“They offer opportunities to drive jobs and wealth creation as well as a income redistribution within the society,” he said.
He charged the beneficiaries were task to secure plans that would help them in financing and equally monitor the growth and development of their project, as he assured them of SMEDAN support at all time.
