The Plateau state governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has pardoned 13 inmates out of the Jos maximum Correctional centre, in commemoration of the 2024 Democracy-Day.
He said said his action was based on recommendations from the Plateau State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy to commemorates 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
This was contained in a signed statement by Governor Mutfwang’s spokesman, Gyang Bere, Wednesday in Jos.
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, I, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, governor of Plateau state, Nigeria, after consultation with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, do hereby exercise my power of Prerogative of Mercy,” he said.
The statement said: Bitrus Gonkir, Umar Adams, Monday Pam, and Jibrin Ibrahim received absolute pardon, whereas; Victor Pam will serve 1 year 8 months from approval date, Daniel Umar 2 years 11 months, while Husaini Ya’u would serves 2 years, and Dauda Joshua 5 years, respectively.
According to Governor Mutfwang, Moses John will serve 1 year 2 months from approval date; while Nanfa Yusuf, Harisu Abdullahi, and Binsing Nden had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment, desperately.
Governor Mutfwang stated that the beneficiaries have shown remorse for their crimes, based on the recommendations from the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
