Delta receives global corporate responsibility award

Delta Airline has been honoured by Foreign Policy Association for the role it (airline) plays fostering global diversity and its commitment to the communities it serves worldwide. “Delta has proven that to be successful, a global airline today must look beyond the aircraft and the airports and commit themselves to being a force for global good for their communities, their customers and their people,” said the association’s president, Noel Lateef. In honouring Delta, the group cited the airline’s policy of dedicating 1 percent of Delta’s profi ts to the communities it serves worldwide, as well as its mission, as a global airline, to foster understanding between diverse people and cultures.

“Our core mission, as a company, is to make the world a smaller place,” said the chief executive offi cer of the airline. “So as a global airline, I take great pride in knowing that every day, we help open up people to diff erent ways of thinking by bringing them together, face to face, across diff erent parts of our globe,” said the airline’s chief executive offi cer, Ed Bastian. Bastian also thanked leaders from the community organizations Covenant House, Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement who attended the ceremony, thanking them for their partnership and noting that Delta people consistently volunteer their time to make these partnerships successful. “As part of the Delta family, we feel like we are part of something that’s bigger than ourselves.

And it’s really truly the way we feel,” he said. Th e corporate responsibility award comes days after Delta’s law department was recognized for its pro-bono work supporting the airline’s eff ort to end human traffi cking. Meanwhile, the airline has appointed Corneel Koster as senior vice president Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. He takes over from Nat Pieper who has become senior vice president global alliances. Based in London, Koster will further expand on Delta’s successes in the EMEAI region in cooperation with long-term partner airlines including Air France KLM, Alitalia, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Jet Airways.

He will report to Delta’s President – International & EVP – Global Sales, Steve Sear. “Corneel brings a wealth of industry experience to Delta and his knowledge of airline partnerships combined with his commercial and operational acumen will build a stronger, more competitive future for Delta in the region,” said Steve Sear.
