Defections: Wake up to reality, Ahmed tells PDP

Kwara state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday told members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to face the reality of defection of the G-5 governors and other members of the splinter group that merged with the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Ahmed, who spoke at the distribution of 100 units of taxis to members of various transport unions in the state, said those who still held the notion “that our defection does not enjoy the support of the good people Kwara state have not realised that the power of this leadership (Kwara) is in the hands of the people of this state.”

The governor said unfolding political events in the state had clearly shown that the people had appreciated that their defection was in the overall interest of the masses.

He said the choice of empowerment for transport unions under the state’s transport revitalisation scheme, was borne out of his administration’s share prosperity programmes to ensure the spread of democracy dividends to all.
The governor urged the beneficiaries to adhere strictly to mode of repayment warning that it was not “government largesse,” but a revolving scheme.

He said the government had so far recorded 70 per cent success in the repayment of the earlier ones disbursed to people.
The commissioner for Commerce and Cooperatives, Alhaji Sulyman Alege, said the sum of N150 million was earmarked for the scheme out of which N50 million was used for the purchase of 100 units of taxi cars under the first phase.

In his address, the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters, Alhaji Bibire Ajape, said the government was transparent and considered merit in the process of selecting the beneficiaries under the scheme.
