A magistrate’s court in Ado-Ekiti Friday granted activist Dele Farotimi bail to the tune of N30 million and two sureties with houses or similar assets.
As part of the bail condition, the court also ordered him not to speak on the issue that culminated into the legal brawl in the public.
The activist, whose book on Babalola’s alleged corrupt influence on the Nigerian judiciary, was ordered to submit his passport as part of the bail conditions.
Farotimi, it would be recalled, has been in detention since he was seized from his Lagos home by the police on a defamation complaint from senior lawyer Afe Babalola a few weeks ago.
Farotimi’s travail has continued to draw nationwide and international uproar, while many cited it as the most egregious abuse of power, others are of the views that the law must take its course.
He was accompanied to the court premises by policemen and other security forces on Friday morning, and he was granted bail within an hour after the matter was called.
