Four players of Nigeria’s U-17 team, the Flamingoes, are among the 35 Falconets players head coach Peter Dedevbo has asked to resume camp on Sunday for the side’s last phase preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World in Canada in August.
The Flamingoes quartet are Chinwendu Ihezuo, Uchenna Kalu, Esther Elijah and Ugochi Emenayo.
Dedevbo said 10 players are expected in the side’s Abuja camp on Sunday, while the others will come in unfailingly on Monday after their weekend league matches.
“We’ll resume camp on Sunday with 35 players to start intense preparations for the World Cup coming up in August in Canada.
“Ten players are already in camp, while the others have been given permission to report to camp unfailingly on Monday after their various league matches at the weekend.
“Four Flamingoes players made up of two attackers and defenders are equally invited, namely Chinwendu Ihezuo, Uchenna Kalu, Esther Elijah and Ugochi Emenayo.
“These four players are the ones we considered of great value to our preparations among the other U-17 players and we hope the value we see in them to warrant invitation they’ll live up to the billings when we resume training.
“Of course, we’ll engage ourselves with a series of local friendly matches during the camping exercise, while we strongly believe the federation will organise international friendly games for the side in the run-up to the World Cup.
“We’ll commence training with the 35, while the weeding exercise goes up until we get to the required number to campaign at the World Cup,” said the former Flamingoes’ head coach to Supersport.com.
Nigeria will campaign for honour in Group C with Korea Republic, Mexico and England. The Falconets first game on August 6 will be against Mexico. They will take on Korea and England in subsequent games.
