Declare state of emergency on infrastructure, Imo Assembly beckons Ihedioha

Members of the 9th House of Assembly in Imo State have urged the governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, to declare a state of emergency on the poor state of general infrastructure in the state.

Last Tuesday, the assembly successfully passed a motion urging the governor to declare a state of emergency on the health sector.

The mover of the present motion, Hon. Anyadike Nwosu of Ezinihitte State constituency said the present state of infrastructure in the 27 local government areas of the state was dilapidated.

He statedthat the decay in infrastructure cuts across all sectors of the economy and that if nothing urgent was done to put things in their
right perspectives, the whole state would be in big mess.

The lawmaker said , “the poor infrastructure manifested itself in education where the classroom blocks built by the immediate past government are on the verge of collapse as almost all of them are leaking; the health sector where the hospitals in the state are an eye sore; the roads, both in Owerri capital city and the rural areas are not motorable and people face difficult situations anytime it rains, especially, the Mbaise / Owerri road in his constituency ; and the flyovers and tunnels built by the same administration now pose as security threat to the citizens of the state due to poor foundation.”

He also said the infrastructural decay manifested itself in public buildings such as the International Conference Centre (ICC), the Assembly building, among others.
