Dangote academy trains 100 Kogi youths on skill acquisition

The Dangote Group has admitted a new set of 100 youths into Dangote Academy to be trained towards acquisition of technical skills and leadership ability.
Inaugurating the newly admitted students at the Dangote Cement factory at Obajana, Kogi state yesterday, President Dagote Group, Chief Aliko Dangote said the Junior Technical Scheme (JTS) batch 3 and 4 comprising 100 students from Obajana and Ibese would provide various technical abilities to the youths in the areas of mechanical and electrical maintenance trainings.
Dangote noted that the effort would provide capacity development and empowerment to the youths with 80 per cent technical and 20 per cent class works.
The President of Dangote Group who was represented by the Group Executive Director, G.V.D Edwin, noted that the academy was established in 2010 to serve as the talent pipeline for the Dangote Group while filling the industrial skills gap in Nigeria.
“This was in recognition of the fact that the Group and indeed most industries in Nigeria cannot rely solely on universities and colleges of technology to provide the specialised technical and managerial training required to run major modern industrial factories such as Dangote Cement factory, particularly in the large numbers of personnel they required to run their operations all over the country and outside Nigeria.”
Dangote stressed that the first set were admitted in 2014 and most of them are now working in different Units within the Dangote Group while a few others are working in other manufacturing Plants across Nigeria.
“At the end of the 18 months training programme at the academy, these 100 young Nigerians which cut across all the states of the federation will become master technicians in electrical installations and maintenance, welding and fabrication, machining and fitting, mechanical maintenance and instrumentation.
“The Group through the Dangote Academy has trained about 10,000 employees in 2017 through delivery and supported training programmes.
“It is good to note that the Dangote Academy is the training hub that will be serving our expansive business acquisitions and operations within and outside Nigeria,” he stated.
