Dana Airline: FG assures on safety, security in aviation sector

Following the Tuesday incident that involved the aircraft operated by Dana Airlines at the Port Harcourt International Airport, the federal government has assured that efforts are in place to continuously enhance safety and security of the aviation sector.
In a press statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs, James Odaudu, the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, further assured that government will not abdicate its commitment to the safety and security of lives and property in the Nigerian airspace.
The Ministry sympathises with the passengers on the aircraft over the traumatic experience.
It would be recalled that an aircraft operated by Dana Airlines was involved in an accident February 20th, 2018 at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The Aircraft 5N-SRI, with flight number: 0348, and model MD 83, had 54 passengers on board including 5 crew members overran Runway 21 at the Port Harcourt at 1751 UTC.
All paassengers on-board were evacuated safely with no reported casualties.
Blueprint observed that the Airport was briefly closed for safety reasons and reopened after proper assessment.
Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has commenced investigation in accordance to ICAO Annex 13, while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has heightened Safety Oversight over the operator.
