Dalung reacts after Super Eagles AFCON semis loss

Immediate past Youth and Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung has described the 2-1 defeat of the Super Eagles by Algeria in the semi final of the African Cup of Nations as a painful loss.

Dalung who watched the match in Cairo alongside other members of the Federal Government delegation including the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Ahmed Lawan  said that the result did not  reflect the gallant performance of the team  especially in the second half.

“Football being what it is must have a winner and a loser and Algeria  won.”

The immediate past Minister of Youth and Sports said that the Super Eagles players tried their best but sadly lost in the dying minutes of the game.

He enjoined the team to quickly move on from the defeat and focus on the third place game against Tunisia on Wednesday.

“We need to quickly gather ourselves and focus on the bronze medal game against Tunisia. Having lost out on gold or silver, the team can at least pick a bronze medal.”

Barrister Dalung noted that Tunisia will not be an easy fry since the Carthage Eagles would also be looking for a consolation medal.

“We must approach the game with everything we have. Winning the bronze medal is not negotiable to thank our father, President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support”.

Dalung advised the Nigeria Football Federation to go back to the drawing board to prepare for future competitions.
