Czech Envoy hands over classroom block to FOMWAN

Czech Republic Ambassador to Nigeria, Zdenek Krejct on Tuesday commissioned a block of classroom for FOMWAN Primary and Secondary School in Wuse 2, Abuja.

The Ambassador, who was accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Hana Trousilova and Trade & Development Counsellor Marie Nwanyanwu, opined that the facilities will further deepen collaborations between Nigeria and the Czech Republic.

Ambassador Krejct while delivering his speech at the school premises during the commissioning noted that the block of classroom was realized as a small scale project in the frame of the Czech Republic cooperation with Nigeria.

He said, “the Commissioning of this block of classrooms that we are witnessing today is just one of the results of the cooperation between the two country.

“It is noteworthy to note that Czech Republic is a Christian country but we happy to support a Muslim school and help to develop it. We sincerely hope that the school will continue to flourish and make good use of the building. We are proud to assist those who need our help. Our country is not so rich in mineral deposit but through hard work we have been able to achieve a lot and assist many less privileged whether Christians or Muslims.”

Speaking at the short ceremony, the country’s Deputy Head of Mission, Mrs Hana Trousilova, noted that Nigeria is a diverse country with several peculiarities.

“We have supported some Christian project in the past now we are supporting a Muslim project,” she said.

On her own, the Trade & Development Counsellor, Marie Nwanyanwu, disclosed that “Czech Republic will always support education in Nigeria. We are looking forward to do more for Nigeria.”

Speaking earlier, Amirah FOMWAN FCT chapter, Hajiya Fatima Isah Ndako, disclosed that the organization has empowered and lift several women out of poverty through regular vocational training.

She called on the Embassy to help in training women in skill acquisition.

“We sincerely demand for more assistance from Czech Republic especially in the area of skill acquisition for our women. We hope to sustain our new found relationship and we are highly delighted by coming to our aid speedily,” she said.

In her welcome address, Dr. (Mrs) Maryam Adamu appreciated the Ambassador and people of Czech Republic for coming to the assistance of FOMWAN FCT chapter by building the block of classroom.

“For several years nobody came to our assistance but God used Czech Republic. We are very grateful. May Allah continue to elevate you,” she said.

Present at the commissioning are several members of FOMWAN, students and teachers.

Founded in 1985, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) is a faith-based, non-profit umbrella organisation of Muslim women’s associations in Nigeria. 

The organisation works on elections, education, and health and gender-based issues.
