Customs open campaign with emphatic 101-68 points victory over DSS

The Nigeria Customs men basketball team defeated the Directorate of State Service (DSS) by 101-68 points on the opening day of the second edition of the Armed Forces and other Security Agencies championship at the Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola international stadium, Abuja.

Inspired by the presence of its Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi who was on ground to cheer his men, the Border Men opened 16 points advantage at the close of the first half 51-35 (28-18, 23-17).

Efforts by the DSS to fight back in the third quarter could only yield a tie as both sides ended the quarter by 23 points apiece.

Customs however proved too strong for their opponent as they easily won the fourth quarter by 27-10 points to close out the game.

The Coach Mohammed Abba tutored side will take on its strongest Group B opponent, The Nigeria Police at 3:00 pm on Wednesday (today) as the race for a semi finals spot is been intensify.

The Nigeria Police defeated the Federal Road Safety Corps by 76-41 points while Group A leader Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp defeated the Federal Fire Service by 92-50 points.

Other games on the bill in Day-2 of the championship Road Safety will take on the DSS at 1:00 pm while the Nigerian Air Force will feel the pulse the NSCDC at 5:00 pm.

Customs play caller Abba says his side will take each one at a time as all teams have equal chances of getting to the knock out stages.

Tournament coordinator Victor Okoro who is representing the Armed Forces and other Security Agencies on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF praised the turnout of the seven teams vying for honours.
