Customs intercepts imported rice in Kaduna

Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Zone B Command in Kaduna, has confiscated no less than 11 vehicles carrying bags of foreign rice on Kaduna, Zaria and Kano axis.

While speaking in an interview with newsmen, the Assistant Controller and Commander CGC strike force of the Command, Ekanem Wills, said details of the seizures were obtained from informants.

“We were able to confiscate 8 Golf wagons and three J5, all carrying rice. The smugglers have now devices a new means of using smaller tinted vehicles to convey the smuggled goods,” he said.

He further said each of the eight golf wagons carried between 40-45 bags of rice, adding that “two suspects were apprehended and investigation is ongoing to confirm the culprits behind the reoccurring rice smuggle which the Federal government has placed ban on.”

He said government had provided vehicles that were being used for patrol, as well as seizures of any smuggled goods.
