Customers threaten to shut down Kaduna electricity office

Pensioners of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC), a subsidiary of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has threatened to take over the corporate headquarters of the company in Kaduna if their outstanding pensions and gratuity are not paid within the next seven days.

Alhaji Saidu Ibrahim Nock, the chairman of Pensioners Union, Kaduna chapter said, it is very painful that for the past three months the pensioners have not received their pension and gratuity. According to him, the last time that any money was paid to them was in February 2014.

“We started having problem immediately the government informed us that our pension will be paid by the Nigeria Electricity Management Company (NELMCO) and every time we were informed that the budget did not capture pensioners.
“Many of our members have died waiting for their rights and those of us waiting are suffering because we do not know when any money will come from the government. We have families to care of like every other Nigerian,” he said.
However pensioners commenced seven days prayer and fasting to seek divine intervention on the matter.
