Current security strategy yielding positive results – Chief of Air Staff

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said Thursday that the current security strategy adopted by the Armed Forces is yielding positive results in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges.

The Chief of Air Staff said this while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of Security Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“On the outcome of the meeting he said, the meeting is all about the security of Nigerians and Nigeria. And the message coming out of that meeting is that the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security forces will continue to to work much harder to ensure that every Nigerian is secure and the territorial integrity of Nigeria is not undermined by anybody,” he said.

On changing strategy, the Chief of Air Staff said: “I think the strategy has already been changed and from what we are seeing, the current strategy is working. What we are going to do is to ensure that all hands are on deck and every Nigerian equally has a role to play by passing relevant intelligence to us. So far the strategy that we have on ground is really working and that is the one we will continue to pursue.”

Those who attended the meeting were the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai and Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas.

Others were the Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar Adamu; and the  Director General of State Security Service (SSS) Mr Yusuf Magaji Bichi.
