CSOs urge politicians to eshew bitterness

Coalition of Civil Societies Organizations (CSOs) has called on the political elites to put their houses in order for Nigeria’s nascent democratic system to thrive and yield the desired democratic dividends.
Th e group urged them to avoid anything capable of destroying democracy in the country noting that the present infrastructure development could not sustained without peace.
Speaking at a media chat convened to assess the recent debacle that greeted the traditional Hawan Daushe Sallah festivity held at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II , a renowned Civil Society Organization activist, Malam Ibrahim Waiya said the ugly incident calls for urgent reassessment of the conduct of politicians.
According to him, politics should not be turned into an avenue for the promotion of personal vendetta that would give way to unnecessary acrimony and shedding of blood stressing that politics is meant to accommodate competing ideological interests.
Waiya, who is also the President, Citizen for Development and Education, regretted that some people use confl ict to score cheap political capital at the expense of the collective interest of the peaceloving Kano citizens.
He said that the traditional Hawan Daushe Sallah celebration should not have been turned into a blood spilling battle ground.
He called on politicians to imbibe the attributes of good leadership so as to guide the younger generation, particularly the children of the down trodden against political violence.
Speaking in the same vein, a Civil Society Organization activist, Malam Nura Maaji

called on the political elite to promotion of education against the monster of ignorance and illiteracy among youths, and thus make responsible members of the society.
He stated that the present political dispensation in the country was in dire need of fresh and sustainable re-engineering in order to provide good governance.
