A group, the Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD) has called for a constructive, evidence-based discourse in Kogi state, emphasizing the need for unity and collaborative development.
The organization also expressed concern over the rising trend of unsubstantiated allegations against the current administration, urging critics to present verifiable evidence rather than making baseless claims.
In a statement signed and read on Friday by its representative, Basah Mohammed, CSATD commended the state government’s achievements while reaffirming the importance of accountability and fact-driven discussions in governance.
The group highlighted key accomplishments, noting that the administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants through the approval and implementation of a new minimum wage of ₦72,500, with a one-year tax suspension to ease financial burdens.
It also acknowledged major infrastructural developments of the adminstration, including the completion of the Zone 8 to Crusher Road project and the introduction of beautification initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s aesthetics and connectivity.
On security, CSATD lauded the government’s investment in law enforcement, citing the deployment of advanced technology and community policing strategies that have contributed to a notable reduction in crime rates across the state.
CSATD also lauded the administration’s support for education, with substantial funding allocated to student bursaries, benefiting thousands of young learners. Additionally, in the agriculture sector, the government has cleared thousands of hectares of land for farming, a move aimed at boosting food security and stimulating economic growth.
CSATD expressed concern over recent accusations against the administration that lack credible evidence.
The organization stressed that accountability is essential but should be grounded in verifiable facts. It urged those making allegations to adhere to the legal principle that “the burden of proof lies upon him who affirms, not he who denies.”
While reaffirming the right to free speech, CSATD cautioned that unsubstantiated claims could unjustly damage reputations and divert attention from more pressing governance issues. It encouraged individuals with legitimate concerns to present them to appropriate authorities rather than engaging in public smear campaigns.
The organization emphasized that the period of election-related political competition has ended, and now is the time for all stakeholders to unite for the state’s progress.
It noted that the administration has made deliberate efforts to foster inclusivity and ethnic harmony, ensuring that all communities within Kogi state benefit from governance.
Acknowledging that opposition voices have predominantly emerged from specific ethnic groups, CSATD called on political actors and citizens alike to move beyond past divisions.
CSATD urged political leaders, civil society organizations, and citizens to engage in constructive dialogue that prioritizes the state’s development over partisan interests.
“Let us channel our energies towards building a prosperous Kogi State for the benefit of all its inhabitants,” the statement added.
