Crowd jostles for Ndume’s free eye surgery in Borno

 

A mammoth crowd besieged the popular Maiduguri Eye Hospital located along Damboa road within the metropolis, jostling to acquire the free eye treatment and surgery cases related to cataract, among other related illnesses. 

Senator Ali Ndume (APC Borno South) in collaboration with the Borno state government, Nigerians in Diaspora (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, KSA) and Saudi philanthropists, organised the mega free eye camp, providing cataract surgery for 1,000 Borno citizens.

The event which started with screening on Thursday at the Damboa Road Eye Hospital in Maiduguri, is expected to last for one week.

Speaking to journalists after the flagging off the exercise, Junaid Jibril Maiva, Director-General of Media and Publicity to Senator Ali Ndume, said, “the initiative by the former Senate Chief Whip, was aimed at promoting eye health among the elderly and those suffering from vision problems.”

“The exercise will provide free eye check-ups, free eyeglasses, consultations and cataract surgery for up to 1000 Borno citizens or individuals.

“As you have seen the large turnout, we want to assure this gathering that all those who turned up would be given the desired attention and treatment.

“Borno state government under the leadership of Governor Babagana Zulum and Senator Ndume recognise the importance of good vision for maintaining independence and quality of life, especially, among the elderly. 

“This initiative aims to address a critical need and make a positive impact on the lives of our citizens,” Junaidu said.

Some of the beneficiaries who have successfully concluded their screening and billed for treatment were Mallam Abubakar Isa, Hajiya Aisami Yakubu, Mr. Dauda John Mrs. Rebecca, among others.

Ali in an interview with journalists in Maiduguri commended Senator Ali Ndume and Governor Babagana Umaru Zulum for their contributions to the well-being of the people of Borno state, especially, for organising such medical experts committed and determined to correct their eyes related problems.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Hon. Man Abba Chupun, former chairman of Gwoza local government, Tijani Audu Ville, Kan Giwa of Gwoza local government, among other stakeholders.
