Crisis has started trailing the just concluded rescheduled November 24 ward congress conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River state.
Not only has the rescheduled ward congress described as a sham, but the National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, has been called to intervene in the crisis so that all the aspirants would have a level playing.
Jonah Egbe, who is vying for Ikom 11 state constituency, spoke on behalf of the other aspirants.
The leadership of PDP had rescheduled the ward congress in Cross River state for Monday; a development that ended with a bomb blast at the state secretariat of the party located along Murtala Muhammed Highway, Calabar.
But in a petition signed by Egbe on November 26, addressed to Mu’azu, he noted that the rescheduled election did not take place.
He said the bombing of the Cross state PDP secretariat was a “self-inflicted strategem and a decor to move the fake distribution of election materials from the prying eyes of party members and journalists.”
Egbe alleged that election materials meant for Monday’s rescheduled congress were “released to trusted government appointees and aspirants on Sunday, a day before the date stated for the delegate election.”
“At the time the congresses were supposed to have been held on Monday morning, the Electoral Panel members had safely left the state with the results that were compiled the previous day,” he said.
