The Police in the Federal Capital made major break through in the bid to secure the territory and its environs from criminals and all forms of Crime, the FCT Police command, following the arrest and parade of over 30 suspected armed robbery suspects, receivers of stolen items, fraudsters as well as a single mother who allegedly physically abusing her daughter.
Parading the suspects before journalists at the command headquarters, Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, acting CP
Wilson Inalegwu said the arrests were demonstration of the commands commitment to its mandate of securing lives and property in the FCT and its environs safe.
He explained that the main focus of the command is to foster people/partnership through civil and professional policing and called on the public to embrace the gesture to ensure a crime free FCT.
The CP said that the suspects who are members of different criminal gangs were arrested at different locations within the
FCT, even as arms, ammunition as well as nine vehicles were also recovered.
He explained that the daughter of the single mother, Patience Stephen, was brought to Karimo Police Division by a good Samaritan with burn wounds and cuts.
Ms Stephen, he said, was found to have branded her 5-year-old daughter with hot iron on her body including her face and her genitals as well as cut her palm and the sole of her feet with a sharp object.
Inalegwu said that the suspect had confessed to the crime and was helping the police with more information, just as she would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
Speaking further, he said, Gideon Barnabas and Christopher James who hail from Kaduna and Plateau states respectively were arrested on Wednesday at about 6:30am by officers attached to the Durumi Police Division while acting on a tip-off.
The CP further stated that one locally made pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
Similarly, he said that six of the suspects: Aniako Ikechukwu; Suleiman Umar; Otanwa Benedict; solomon Anyawu’ Onyekwere Uzoma and Obinna Obi; conspired and robbed a Chinese Furniture Company located in Garki.
According to him, the suspects tied up the Accountant of the firm, a Chinese, and inflicted facial injuries on him before making away with the N30,000 and a Samsung phone.
Another gang of two: Inuwa Idris and Awalu Abubakar; the Police boss said were arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery; just as one Plasma TV; one prepaid meter; two wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp; and a wallet containing $300Dollars were recovered from them.
The command, he said, also arrested three other robbery suspects: Ikechukwu Ojukwu; Dauni Mustapha; and Tony Anene.
The trio who were arrested by personnel attached to the Utako Police Division allegedly attacked one Dandila Kazeem and Pastor Samuel with a gun and made away with a laptop; 2 Nokia phones; one blackberry Bold 5; some amount of money and other valuables at Berger Roundabout, Abuja.
Three other suspects: Geofery Nwachukwu; Fred Gali; Nick Idris; were also arrested for receiving stolen cars; just as a Toyota Camry Car with registration no AKD 394 BD was recovered from them.
In a similar development, Micheal Iyade, who allegedly defrauded one Grace Udoinyang of N4.5million, was arrested on November 12, 2014, at about 3pm by a team of officers on surveillance patrol, he, however, claimed it was only N410,000 he collected from the complainant.
Another suspected robber, John Tohima, was also arrested on November 6, 2014, by a Police patrol team after her attacked one Micheal Jackson on 5th Avenue Gwarinpa and is to be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
The command also re-arrested an escaped prisoner, Jesse James Dangabas, who espaced from prison custody at Kiton Karga Prison yard during the recent attack on the prison and was arrested at Chika village,Kwali, Abuja on November 9.
Four others: Nicholas Baba; Gods Okeke; Gogara Markus; Alasha Wale; were also arrested by officers attached to Kuje Division on a tip-off, over vandalization of PHCN transformer, just as a gas cylinder cable was recovered from them.
An Igbo trader, Uchenna Ikwuegbu, was also arrested on November 8, 2014, while driving along kubwa Express Road in volkswagen Golf car fully loaded with electric cable wires suspected to be stolen.
