COVID-19: Security agents’ll continue to arrest defaulting clerics – Lalong

Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, Monday assured that security agencies will continue to deal with religious leaders and other defaulters of government orders.

HE Said all measures put in place to prevent the occurrence and spread of coronavirus in the state must be obeyed.

He said government has put up the measures in the interest int of people so that they may not be infected with the virus.

Lalong stated this Monday, at a stakeholders meeting with members of the state House of Assembly and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, held at Government House.

He said: “It is because of the interest of the people that we took those decisions. You will see on WhatsApp or Facebook that some people are saying there was no compliance. It is not that we have left them. We have handed all of them over to security agencies, so security agencies are dealing with cases.”

Lalong said religious leaders that have also violated the orders are not left out of interrogation by the security agencies.

“It is not only one aspect, we have cases from the church we have some pastors that refused to comply and some Islamic clerics said they are not complying. I think the security has to bring them to order. We are not joking with things,” he said.

Lalong said the state is to get a centre for the test of COVID-19 disease soon adding that as chairman of the state COVID-19 Emergency Response Task Force, “we are dealing with an abnormal situation and so we need to take drastic measures in order to protect the lives of the citizens.

“Thankfully, there is no recorded case yet and we pray that it remains so. However, we must work hard to keep things this way,” he said.
