COVID-19: Foundation distributes food worth N30m in Jos

The Haruna Maitala Foundation has commenced distribution of food items worth N30m to the people of Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency as palliatives to alleviate their hardship during the lockdown.

Hon. Maitala said the palliatives were necessary considering the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic on the entire world, his constituency inclusive.

Represented by his aide, Abdulkadir Alhassan, Maitala said the disbursement was, “meant to reach the most vulnerable needy in the society.”

According to him, a four-man committee, in each community within his constituency, has been set up to ensure the smooth disbursement of the food items.

He said: “We have put in place some community based modalities that will ensure rancor free distribution of the items, in such a way that they get to the targeted beneficiaries.”

Mr. Abdulakadir said the items were not part of the constituency projects of their office, rather it was the personal gesture of Hon. Haruna Maitala.

“This was not in our plan of activities, because no one had expected any pandemic, but it has occurred just unexpectedly and the Hon. Member deemed it wise to personally put in his efforts to provide some palliatives,” he added.

Mr. Abdulkadir said Nigerians, particularly Muslims should devote the precious times of the blessed months of Ramadan, to fervently pray for the end of the coronavirus pandemic and other hard situation that the country and world are facing.
