COVID-19: El-Rufai heads NGF’s solution finding committee


Governors of the 36 states of the federation on the platform of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have set up a six-man sub-committee headed by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state to explore mechanisms to tackle the effects of coronavirus (COVID-19).


Members of the committee are Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, Governor David Umayi of Ebonyi state, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa stare, Godwin Obaseki of Edo state and Governor Abubakar Badaru Jigawa state.
Chairman of NGF and Governor of Ekiti state, Mr Kayode Fayemi, who disclosed this at the end of the forum’s meeting, said the committee is mandated to review the trends of COVID-19 pandemic and the drop in oil price l, and advise state governments on sets of actions required to address the challenges.


The federal government had on Wednesday announced N1.5 trillion reduction in the 2020 budget to meet up with the current economic realities occasioned by CONVID 19.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning Mrs. Zainab Ahmed said government was working on a worse case scenario of oil benchmark of $30 per barrel at 2.18 million barrels per day.
The president had also set up a committee to assess the impacts of the COVID-19 on Nigeria’s 2020 budget, with respect to the recent decline in the price of crude oil in the global market.
