COVID-19: Borno establishes isolation center, installs equipment


As Coronavirus infection hits over 222,00 cases, 87,000 deaths in at least 176 countries, the Borno state government has  established and upgraded an isolation center for the treatment and control of the pandemic.

The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aliyu Salihu Kwaya Bura, who stated this at a press briefing with journalists, Thursday, added that the center which was formerly used for the control and treatment of Lassa fever, was upgraded with modern and sophisticated equipment, including online facilities and well trained staff to man it.

According to him, a standing committee was also set up to create awareness, respond to emergencies and disseminate information to the public in the event of an outbreak of the pandemic.

“In Borno state, I want to assure of the Ministry of Health’s efforts an preparedness to handle Coronavirus popularly known as COVID-19 in case its rears its ugly head in the state,” he said.

Dr Bura said “there is no case of COVID-19 in the state and should it rear its ugly head, the state government had put in place necessary measures to contain it,” adding that the state government had upgraded  and designated the100-bed Brigadier Abba Kyari Memorial Hospital as an isolation center.


He further maintained that the State Response Team has also been activated and  urged people to contact them in case of any suspected case. 

The state commissioner also commended WHO and other health partners for the success recorded in  the  fight against Lassa fever and  other emergencies while appealing to them to extend same support in the fight against COVID-19.
