Court to Kazzah, Bajju Council: Maintain status quo over Shetima tussle

A Kafanchan High Court has ordered both parties in the tussle for the position of Shetima Bajju between Mr Elias Yeyu Kazzah, plaintiff and Agwam Kajju, Mr Luka Yabuwat Kogi, defendant  to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case.

Mr Kazzah had instituted a case in court challenging the Agwam Kajju, Mr Luka Yabuwat Kogi and the Kajju Traditional Council over his removal as the Shetima Bajju and the subsequent installation of another person.

At the court sitting Tuesday, the presiding judge, S.S. Daka, ordered that both the person removed and the one used to replace him should refrain from carrying out functions of the office while hearing in the case will commence.

The judge said the decision of the court is to forestall the possibility of creating tension in the community which could lead to disturbance of public peace.

The court also urged both parties to refrain from doing anything that could destabilise the peaceful coexistence in the community.

The case was t adjourned to 6th June, 2024 for the commencement of hearing.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Blueprint outside the courtroom, counsel to Mr Elias Yeyu Kazzah, Emmanuel Okunola Esq, and that of Agwam Kajju, T. M. Gora Esq both described the decision of the court as a welcome development.
