An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court has remanded in prison custody a 57-year-old man, Taiwo Ajayi, charged with rape a 12-year-old girl at St. Mary’s Girls’ Secondary School, Ikole-Ekiti.
The remand order was given by the Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Afeniforo, to give the court time to seek legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The police prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Ajiboye, had told the court that he had duplicated the file on the case and sent a copy to the DPP for advice.
Mentioning the case, Okoro told the court that Ajayi raped a 12-year-old girl at St. Mary’s Girls’ Secondary School, Ikole-Ekiti.
He alleged that the offence was committed on March 18, 2014, adding that the forceful act led to admission of the girl in hospital.
He said that the offence contravened Section 31(1)(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap C7 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
No plea was taken from the accused.
The magistrate adjourned the case til June 6.
