Court remands man for alleged N20,000 fraud in Osun


An Osun state magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, Monday ordered the detention of a 45-year-old man, Ilelaboye Opeyemi, in the state’s correctional centre, Ilesa, for alleged N20,000 fraud. 


The accused was alleged to have collected the money from one Amuda Alimat with a pretence to help her secure the release of her husband from Ile-Ife correctional center. 


The prosecutor, Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the accused haf attempted to have sex with his victim after duping her. 


The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation of fraud preferred against him. 


He informed the court that the accused is standing trial in another court where he was alleged to have impersonating OC SARS of Oyo state. 


The offence is contrary to and punishable under section 419 of the criminal code cap 34 VOL. II Laws of Osun state Nigeria 2002.


Counsel to the accused, K. A. Adepoju, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term. 


But, the Magistrate, Ishola Omisade, ordered the detention of the accused in the correctional center and adjourned the matter to January 14, 2021.
