Court remands driver in police custody pending sentencing

An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court yesterday ordered that a 25-year-old driver, Ibrahim Ibrahim, be remanded in police custody till February 10, pending sentencing.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Abdullahi Illelah, gave the order after Ibrahim pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of joint act, criminal breach of trust, theft and receiving stolen property.
Illelah said he suspended the sentence to enable him (accused) to assist the police in apprehending other accomplice at
large.
“In the interim, the convict is to be remanded in police custody till Feb. 10 to enable the police to apprehend the other accomplice who is at large,” he said.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Philip Apollos, told the court that the matter was reported by Mr Joseph Victor of Kubwa, Abuja, at the Life Camp Police Station on January 24.
Apollos said on December 23, 2013, the complainant gave the convict a concrete mixer truck to drive to Jayi park garage in the FCT and park the vehicle.
He said the convict and his accomplice, now at large, diverted the truck to an unknown destination and stole the tyres and various parts of the vehicle all valued at N520, 000.
The prosecutor said during police investigations, Ibrahim confessed to have sold the stolen items to one Mr Sunday who also is at large.
The prosecutor, however, urged the court to reserve the sentence of the convict, pending the conclusion of police investigation. (NAN)
