Court remands 12 mechanics over alleged threat to Makinde

An Oyo state Chief Magistrate Court has remanded 12 mechanics in Ibadan over alleged threat and defamation against Governor Seyi Makinde .

The 12 mechanics were arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi in Ibadan on Thursday.

Chief Magistrate Ogunmakin ordered that the 12 mechanics be remanded pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The 12 suspects were identified as Abdullahi Alajiga (38), Olaniyi Dauda (71), Alfa Olafisoye (69), Daudu Babalola (52), Akande Musbau (58), Olatinwo Wale (42), Saheed Tijani (41) and Sunday Awosope (38).Idris Olujimi (32), Ayobami Idowu (37), Olajire Sodiq (24) and Adeniyi Alimi (51).

They were charged with eight counts charge of treasonable felony, threat to murder, publication of defamatory matter, threatening violence, publication of false news, unlawful assembly, causing fear and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

With the alleged offences, the suspects were alleged to have committed the offence against Gov Makinde on 5th December, 2024 at Olubadan Estate in Egbeda local government area of the state.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, alleged that the defendants threatened to allegedly forcefully remove Gov Makinde from office, in a video they posted on social media.

He say the offences allegedly committed by the defendants contravened the provisions of sections 41 (b), 59, 70, 86 (1), 249 (d), 323, 375 and 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State 2000.

Chief Magistrate Ogunmakin then adjourned the case till January 22, 2025, for mention.
