Court convicts old student of NOUN over $200 fraud

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state,  Thursday, convicted a 25-year-old drop out student of National Open University, NOUN, Oyewumi Tolulope Michael, for duping American to the tune of 200USD. 

The prosecution from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Shamsudeen Basheer, told the court that the defendant had opted for plea bargain and urged the court to adopt the plea. 

Giving the fact of the case, an operative of the EFCC, Mr Umar Yahya, told the court that the defendant was arrested sometimes in July 2019 around Iwo town, Osun state. 

He informed the court that the defendant wrote six statements and iPhone 6, one itel phone, wrist watch with one small mobile phone were recovered from the defendant. 

The plea bargain agreement, 200USD restituted by the defendant, and other documents were tendered by the prosecution and admitted as exhibits by the court. 

Counsel to the defendant, Mr James Jones, urged the court to be merciful in sentencing his client and uphold the plea bargain of six months jail. 

Justice Lifu thereby convicted the defendant and ordered that he be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre till February 7, 2020 for sentencing.
