The Chairman of Ikono local government area, Engineer Oto-Obong Okon Essien, has commended Governor Umo Eno for approving 100 percent increase in the bursary payment to students from Akwa Ibom state studying in public tertiary institutions.
Mrs Essien expressed delight for the governor’s commitment to students’ welfare, particularly with the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic year bursary payment to students.
Speaking on Wednesday with newsmen, she expressed gratitude to the governor for the 100 percent increase in this year’s bursary, from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, while students pursuing professional courses now receive ₦30,000 each.
The chairman encouraged students from Ikono to apply, emphasising that the governor had made the process seamless and free of charge.
She urged students to visit the state bursary portal at https://bursary.akwaibomstate.gov.ng/login, adding that the registration process was completely free, warning students to beware of scammers.
“The registration process is completely free and can be completed on your mobile device. No fees, levies, or dues are required at any stage. Do not fall prey to scammers.
Essien praised Governor Eno’s commitment to education, citing the A-R-I-S-E Agenda, which prioritised education and aimed to provide a sense of belonging for all citizens in Akwa Ibom state.
“Our governor is truly committed to the welfare of all including the students, he has taken governance to all classes of people in Akwa Ibom state and we must appreciate him for that.
“The governor wants everyone to have the sense of belonging, that is why Ikono local government area we will do everything humanly possible to support his administration”.
