‘Corruption, not Nigeria’s problem’

Lack of positive ideas has been identifi ed as the major problem in the Nigeria economy and not corruption as being widely held. Guest Speaker at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) annual debate competition, Engr. Franklin Omusi said this. Omusi said “corruption is not the problem of Nigeria, but lack of ideas on how to enrich ourselves that bring corruption.” He added that “the greatest hindrance to anybody’s problem is not in the outside society, the solution is within oneself.”

Th e guest speaker opined that government was not really the problem of the country, noting that the government always provide enabling environment for the citizens to triumph, while the citizens need to utilise the available opportunity to succeed. Earlier, the Director of Centre for Continuing Education, Kwara State Polytechnic, Mrs. Habeebat Nike Adam, said government should take the issue of youths very important, noting that they were the determinants of national development. Adam also emphasised that youths were no longer the leaders of tomorrow, “but even today, and they are to be well grounded to face the future challenges.” Th e debate tagged ‘‘government employment is better than self employment’’ was won by National Diploma students with 126 points while Higher National Diploma students got 120 points.
