Coronavirus victim also visited Ogun – Commissioner

The Ogun state government Friday alerted its residents of Coronavirus (CONVID-19), disclosing that the victim of the disease, earlier confirmed by the federal government, had visited the state during the week.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who made the disclosure while addressing a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital, said the government had begun line-listing of people the victim had contact with.

Coker, who identified the victim as an Italian and a consultant to Larfarge Africa Plc, said the victim visited the cement factory in Ewekoro in the state on Tuesday from Lagos state, adding that the victim had already made three contacts in Lagos before she arrived in Ogun on Tuesday.

The commissioner disclosed that the victim developed body aches and fever, 24 hours after arriving in the state and was treated at the clinic located in Lafarge facility.

Coker said the Italian was rushed to Lagos on Wednesday and admitted at the Infectious Disease Centre in Yaba, Lagos, “where tests were ran and a definite confirmation came out earlier this morning (Friday).”

She, however, allayed the fear of the residents, giving the assurance that a team of epidemiologists from Ogun, Lagos, and the Federal Ministry of Health had begun line- listing of contacts to ascertain the number of contacts the victim made during his stay in the state.

According to the commissioner, the Ewekoro factory of Lafarge has been partially quarantined following the incident.

She said it was too early to ascribe a number to the contacts he made in Ogun “since the case was just confirmed on Friday.”

While imploring residents to take precautionary steps by maintaining good hygiene lifestyle, Coker said, “Should there be anyone in your vicinity that has a cold or cough, I’m imploring these people to avail themselves to the primary health care centres nearest to them, please do not go to a private hospital or a herbalist or use traditional medicine.”

According to her, the state’s health team would not rest “until every single contact with the victim was identified.”
