Coronavirus: Bala commences payment of special allowances to doctors in Bauchi


Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has commenced payment of special allowances to health workers assigned to manage and treat coronavirus patients in the state.


According to the media aide to the governor Lawal Muazu, the state government is paying the doctors attending to the patients N50,000, N30,000 and N20,000 as special allowances depending on cadres of the officers.


In addition to the payment of the special allowances, the government according to Muazu has provided adequate personal protective equipment to the health personnel at each the isolation centres.


“With the 100-bed facility renovated at Bayara General Hospital, 80-bed facility at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, 40- bed facility at the Specialists Hospital and Federal Medical Center Azare, renovation of two wards which have been equipped through intervention of the 100 beds at Toro General Hospital, provision of a Special Treatment Center at the Teaching Hospital for severe cases with 8 ventilators and other facilities for emergency cases management, it is an indication that Bauchi State Government has the capacity to effectively manage and treat the patients of the novel virus.


“Already, the support of governor Bala Mohammed to the State Task Force on COVID-19 has yielded positive results as the committee has achieved modest successes in the war against the disease,” he said.


He added that from the very first index case to the most recent statistics, the committee has achieved a remarkable success in keeping the pandemic under  control.


He urged citizens of the state to come together to support and cooperate with the government so as to consolidate on the achievements so far recorded especially on addressing the issues of advocacy, contact tracing, infrastructure and case management among others.
