Coronavirus: Anambra NYSC orientation camp shuts down

The Anambra state command of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Wednesday, closed down indefinitely following a nationwide order issued by the Director General of the agency, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim on Wednesday.

Ibrahim, had ordered for a closure of the NYSC commands all over the country due to the Corona virus pandemic, which the country has recorded three cases at a last count.

An official of the state NYSC command, who spoke under the condition of anonymity for not being authorised said they have issued a notice to all the newly 2020 Batch A Corps members serving in the state including officials of the agency to vacate the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South LGA.

“They have started leaving as I am talking to you (on phone) now. We believed they would all leave before the end of work today. This is a nationwide directive. We must adhere to it. The law enforcement agents have been urged to shut it down from midnight today. I would have sent you a press release but we were not authorised to do so now” the source added.

The Batch A members totaling one thousand, nine hundred and twenty-six candidates were last week Thursday, inaugurated in the camp during the official commissioning of the newly built orientation camp graced by Governor Willie Obiano, DG of NYSC, Sunday Dare (Minister of Youth ad Sports Development), among others.

Blueprint had reported that the Batch A members, Obiano, DG NYSC, Dare, and others who graced the occasion were subjected to Coronavirus Screening geared towards ascertaining if the corps members, camp officials, camp community and visitors were free from the pandemic.
