The President of Sports Writers Association (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, on Monday led other National Executive Committee (NEC) members to inspect the venue meant for SWAN National Convention.
The Convention which is slated for Tuesday September 17, 2024, is scheduled to take place inside VIP Lounge, Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Shortly after inspecting the venue, the SWAN President expressed appreciation to Delta State Government for the organisation of the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG).
President Benjamin said the SWAN Convention will take a deep look into the various activities of the 2024 NYG and come up with far-reaching recommendations.
“The venue for SWAN Convention is very much in good condition. Our aim is to ensure that sports development remains alive. The NYG presents opportunity for young sporting talents to be discovered for future exploits.
“At this level, the issue of desperation to win at all cost shouldn’t be the focus,” he said.
Earlier, the SWAN President had addressed the sporting media covering NYG inside the media centre at the stadium, where he told sports journalists to remain professional in their conduct at all times.
Among NEC members who joined both at the inspection and media briefing were the SWAN Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, Southwest Vice President Mr. Ayodeji Ogunsakin, Southeast Vice President Mr. Ikemefuna Asika, Northeast Vice President Mr. Ahmed Kagana Amshi, Northwest Vice President Mr. Kabiru Idris, National Treasurer Amusan Olufemi, National Welfare Secretary Mr. Augustine Ajayi, three National Ex-Officio – Alhaji Idris Malikwa Garu, Alhaji Usman Abbas Shehu and Mr. Abiodun Ogundipe.
