Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has drilled two boreholes and donated same number of tractors in each of the 9 local government areas comprising Southern Borno Senatorial District. Th e Senator, who made the donations yesterday in Shani, Biu, Kwaya Kursa and Bayo LGAs among others, said the general purpose boreholes and 10 tractors purchased and distributed to rural farmers were meant to boost their farming activities during the dry and raining season. However, the items were not physically delivered to the people in some local government areas due to security challenges in these places, but the senator assured that they would be distributed to them when the security situation improves.
He assured the people that eff orts were being made the military in conjunction with the vigilante and Civilian JTF groups to provide adequate security, noting that IDPs would soon return to their host communities soon. Ndume expressed confi dence in the ability of security operatives to bring the Boko Haram insurgency under control, adding that the declaration of total war against insurgency displaced persons would soon return to their ancestral homes. Speaking on the Biu Dam that was abandoned for 30 years, Ndume said the construction fi rm has already mobilised resources and personnel and would soon begin construction.
However, he appealed to the federal government to collaborate with the state government for the completion of the project. On federal government trunk A roads, Ndume said contract for the construction of the BiuGombe road and Biu-Maidugiri road and Biu-Garkida are being reviewed, adding that works on these roads are likely to begin soonest. According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has shown commitment to the restoration and quick return of peace to Borno state and North east subregion as a whole adding that the Nigerian military have been provided with the necessary resources and logistics to end insurgency.
