Confusion as LP faction chairs storm INEC stakeholders’ meeting in Edo

There was a mild drama at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stakeholders’ meeting in Edo state on Friday, following the self-introduction of two individuals as chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in the state.

First to introduce herself was the recently sworn in caretaker chairman of the party, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, who sat on the same row with the Mr. Kelly Ogbaloi whose exco was on Monday dissolved by the national leadership of the party.

“By the grace of God, I am the youngest and the latest chairman in town, the chairman of the Labour Party, Edo state,” Ativie said.

After introducing herself, Ativie made an attempt to hand over the microphone to another individual, but Ogbaloi grabbed it and introduced himself as the chairman of the party in the state.

Following the dramatic moment, participants at the event immediately burst into laughter.

Nonetheless, the stakeholders’ meeting which was chaired by the chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, continued unhindered.

Representatives of 17 political parties participating in the Edo state September 21 governorship election attended the meeting, alongside security chiefs.
