The ongoing National Conference yesterday recommended that Ecological Fund, currently being controlled by the presidency, should be taken away to the Federal Ministry of Environment.
The conference also recommended that the federal government should resettle all the refugees of environmental degradation.
These recommendations were unanimously agreed upon at the plenary yesterday during deliberation and voting on the recommendations of the Committee on Environment.
The conference also unanimously agreed that an Environmental Restoration Agency (ERA) be established to rehabilitate famers and land owners who have suffered degradation problem.
It also agreed that there is the need to regulate electronic waste and create an agency that would address issues of deforestation in the country.
The conference rejected the recommendation that Federal Ministry of Environment should be a creation of the constitution.
It also rejected the recommendation that more court should be established, especially where mining activities are predominant in the country.
The conference also rejected a recommendation for the establishment a ministry to carter for deforestation and other matter in the northern part of the country.
It also rejected a recommendation that the name of Niger Delta Ministry be changed to Niger Delta Ministry and Environmental Degradation.
