Confab rejects same salaries for politicians, civil servants

Delegates yesterday unanimously voted against one of the recommendations of the Conference Committee on Public Finance that the salaries of public office holders and those of civil servants be structured the same.
When the recommendation was read for voting, majority of the delegates voted against it.
The conference also rejected the committee’s recommendation that the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 which addresses budget issues should be enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
Other recommendations rejected were that elimination of slow court process and the establishment of revenue court.
Conference agreed that solid minerals should be concluded in the Concurrent List, and that the Solid Minerals Development Fund be operated as a venture capital, in addition to stopping indiscriminate waivers.
