The Minister of Communications Mrs, Omobola Johnson, has said that Community Resource Centre programme was designed to impact positively on people, especially at rural areas and streamline growth in wealth creation, education, health and agriculture.
Speaking in Sokoto at a one-day workshop organised by the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) to sensitise members of the public on the importance of Community Resource Centrers, she said the programme was also designed to improve on their livelihood through accessible to ICT in the benefitting communities.
The minister, who is also the board chairman of the fund, said the programme was being implemented throughout the country to serve as a focal point of access to ICT.
Johnson, who was represented by Mrs Charity Shekare, added that the board has been working on a number of initiatives that would ensure that no Nigerian was excluded from the benefits of ICTs.
She said the poor ranking of Nigeria in the global competitiveness index underscores the magnitude of the task in implementation of the Vision 20:2020.
The minister stressed the need for refocusing the existing institutions to be more result-driven if the country has to surmount the challenges.
She called on the private sector and other stakeholders to help drive the development of ICT industry by increasing companies participation in the ICT industry.
